This is a virus mail. It is being forwarded to people who post their e-mail adress in here. And what does M$ do about this? Zilch, nada, nothing.

this is the latest version of security update, the "September 2003, Cumulative Patch" update which eliminates all known security vulnerabilities affecting MS Internet Explorer, MS Outlook and MS Outlook Express as well as three new vulnerabilities. Install now to protect your computer from these vulnerabilities, the most serious of which could allow an attacker to run executable on your system. This update includes the functionality of all previously released patches.


System requirements Windows 95/98/Me/2000/NT/XP
This update applies to MS Internet Explorer, version 4.01 and later
MS Outlook, version 8.00 and later
MS Outlook Express, version 4.01 and later
Recommendation Customers should install the patch at the earliest opportunity.
How to install Run attached file. Choose Yes on displayed dialog box.

Actually, this is a virus posting that's had the virus stripped by the NNTP server. That's what MS does about this. Postings that actually contain the virus are 144K - 157K in size, depending on which of several bogus subjects and content the virus is posted with.

Note that other NNTP servers also feed the MS servers and host the MS public newsgroups. If you're reading this newsgroup from any source other than news.microsoft.com (or msnews.microsoft.com - they're the same), then you may have the full attachment - there's nothing MS can do about that - it's up to the admins of whatever NNTP server you're using.
