Long wait for file types

When I go to :

Control panel
Folder Options
File types

it takes forever with the flashlight to go find all my file types. I could
understand this, the very first time, but XP does not seem to remember what
they are and must go research them again to make it accessible.

Normal? Any suggestions?

Depends on what you call a long wait, but the flashlight always runs for a
few seconds prior to the list propagating.
