Long Time To Save Movie File

I have been using the Windows Movie Maker for years. In the past few months,
after I make a 3 minute movie using AVI clips, it is taking 15-20 minutes for
the Movie Maker to save it. It used to take 3-4 minutes. I have cleared out
the Collection File and done everything else I can think of.
What can be done to get me back to normal Save times??

Maybe the following info would be worth a look
(scroll down to see the whole list):

Try converting the clips to .wmv before importing
them...maybe the following converter would be
worth a try.

Quick Media Converter
http://tinyurl.com/a35y6n
or...
http://www.cocoonsoftware.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=92&Itemid=72

Open the program.

Drag / Drop the .avi file into the program

Click the WMV icon on the tool bar

Choose...Windows Media Player format .wmv (custom resize)

Click...Start Conversion button

To overcome resource issues you need lots of
memory and a lean well maintained system.

So...add more RAM...

Before opening Movie Maker...disconnect from
the net and close all running programs especially
virus scanners.

Increase the size of your Virtual Memory
Paging File. The following article explains how:

in Windows XP

Increase hard drive free space by deleting
or moving files...and uninstalling unused
software.

Do regular maintenance:

Empty your Temporary Internet Files Folder.

Running Disk Cleanup, Error Checking and
Defrag on a regular schedule is a good idea.

Tool in Windows XP

(check the two boxes..."Automatically fix file
system errors" and "Scan for and attempt
recovery of bad sectors") the utility will run
the next time you restart your computer.
(run error checking repeatedly until it finds
no errors)

John, thank you for responding. You have helped me in the past on other issues.
Please note the following in regards to your response :
-I have doing the same procedure for years and for some reason it now takes
15-20 minutes to Save A (3 minute) Movie on Movie Maker.
-I am very diligent in keeping everything defragged and cleaned up.
-I have lots of RAM and disk space available.
-I have a Movavi converter and converting them first, makes no difference.
For whatever reason (which I hope you can help me with), it now takes a long
time to save a movie file. Maybe something has corrupted Movie Maker?? Is
there a way uninstall and then reinstall Movie maker, to get rid of the
problem??
I just don't know what happened to create this problem all of a sudden.
Thank you for your help.

I don't know the specific answer...
here are some ideas...

Have you tried opening Movie Maker
and unchecking all the Filters by going
to...Tools / Options / Compatibility tab.

Have you tried doing a system restore
to a time before the issue began?

Have you installed any new software or
updates that may be the cause?

Some users had issues with IE 7 and
uninstalling it was the fix.

George,
Until this week I hadn't worked on mm for a couple months.
First issue I noticed was my split icon was gray more than not - and for
what reason I still do not know (will be working on that this week). I
accidently found out if I kept switching between views it worked in which
ever view I clicked to.

Sorry that is not on your subject -
When I finished up my 25 minute project earlier this afternoon and clicked
save as movie ..... The first thing it said was " 652456 minutes left" or
something like that. Sometimes stupid messages like that seam to fix
themselves so I let it run. Two hours latter it was down to 251355 (or
something like that) I figured ok in about an hour it should be done (though
it also was showing zero percent) When I checked again about an hour latter
the minute timer was actually moving up - and was back up to 375422 and
climbing - I canceled it and found your article.

Something is going on, obviously I have not found the solution yet and will
keep reading your posts and others. I just wanted you to know you are not
alone with this irritant.
-Come to think of it I think before it started saving it said it would need
something like 64 GB of memory - I must have assumed that was a mistake too.

After my last post to you I went through all the things suggested. I too
usually keep a pretty "clean" computer, but I still did the error check and
so on.
I lowered the graphic accelerator a little, still would not save, then I
lowered it to half and like a miracle (anything that finally works after 12
hours is...) it works.

Now I have to find out what to do about that....

=================================
When reducing your Graphics Hardware
Acceleration clears up an issue it means
you need to update your video driver.

Go to the support website of your video
adapter's mfg. and search for drivers
compatible with your operating system.
(WinXP or Vista)

If you don't know the make and model of
your video adapter...check the documentation
that came with the computer.

Also you could try these steps...
Go to...Start / Run...type...
msinfo32 ...press enter.

On the System Information screen...choose...
Components / Display...

You should find the make and model of your
display adapter as well as the driver version.

If the driver on the support website is more
current than the one you are running...
download it and install it. Also you should find
and follow the installation instructions at the
support site.

Once the driver is updated...return your acceleration
to Full.

Good luck...
