Thank You, Carey for your quick reply, but your tip
unfortunately does not work.
First: this option with the messenger, does't seem to be
at all.
Seconds: I've uninstalled the messenger a few weeks ago
with windows-control panel,software, install/uninstall
windows-components-module.
I've tried allready this: I deleted the registry key:
ProtectedStorage in:
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services
and in DOS command-window I tried:
C:\windows\system>pstores.exe -install, to repair the
registry entry of "OE" but unfortunately this does not
work too. The start of my OE-window continues very long.
I've measured it already, it is about 30 sec.
Perhaps is there just another way to solve this problem?

Hi,

In regedit, navigate to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft].

Create a new key by the name "Messenger" and then within that another key by
the name "Client". This is equivalent to creating and navigation to
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Messenger\Client].

Within this create a DWORD key by the name "PreventRun" and set its value to
1. Quit registry and even though not a must, its a good idea to reboot.

This should prevent messenger from loading.

One more way of doing the same without sacrificing run time is to go to
C:\Program Files and rename Messenger directory to something else e.g.
MessengerOff. This works as well.

Best of luck,

Prasad

Hi,... Prasad Addepalli,

It's great! It does really work! I did that thing with
the registry keys, rebooted the machine as you
suggested,...but it did not work so far. So I've made the
another attempt, you've suggested, and attached an "OFF"
to Messenger directory-name, and....it does really work!
From about 30 sec of the start-time to literally: 1 sec.
What a improvement of the perfomance!

Great Thanks, Prasad!

Did you manage to fix this as I am having the same trouble... What did you end up doing?

Ian,

Read through the message thread..If you cannot,

Open C:\Program Files and rename Messenger directory to something else e.g.
MessengerOff. This will solve the problem.

Best of luck,

Prasad
