long delay before pgm starts

When I try to start any program (IE, Word, Outlook, etc)
there is a long delay (1-2 minutes) before anything
happens on my system. Once in the application, everything
seems to operate fine.

I did upgrade the system from XP Home to XP Pro a few
weeks ago, however I didn't notice the delay immediately.

I have searched for spyware and run utilities but nothing
seems to correct this situation.

Any thoughts or ideas on what might be causing this?
