Steve

Hi,

I am running one Novell Netware 5.1 server as file server
(running logon script to map various drives). This server
was upgraded from Netware 3.1. I had tons of problem with
Netware clients so I've using Microsoft Client Services
for Netware with Netware bindery service. It's been fine
until I started to upgrade my workstation to Win2K and
WinXp. I have lots of roaming users(school system,
teachers). Anytime the user logs on to workstation that
they never logged in before, user has to set preferred
server and check run logon script box. Most of my users
don't remember to do this most of the time and gets
frustrated because they can't get to their H:\ drive.
Is there anyway to eliminated this issue..,

Thank you,

Steve,

What kind of client problems do you have with nwclient483sp2+E?
Do you have the netware51sp6 server setup properly (slp/ddns/etc)?

It was ealier version of client32..,
Anyway, I had issue with saving opening long file names
and short file name. We were not able to open some files
nor save. I had no idea what went wrong. I had paid tech
support from Novell, they couldn't fix it. So I went to
Microsoft Client for Netware Service and it work fine.
However, with WinXP and Win2K, my users(many roaming) are
ask to select preferred server and check run logon script
box. It's frustrating my users. Again, is there any way
to solve this issue without migrating to Win2K server with
kix as logon script?

Steve,

The file save issue sounds more like an antivirus issue than an nwclient
issue.
Make sure the workstation side antivirus is NOT scanning the network drives.
Make sure the AV on your server is correctly setup, or even try turning it
off for a test.
Do you have your netware server setup correctly? Is slp properly configured
& distrubuted to the clients? (you didnt answer those questions when i
originally asked them).
Make sure your nwclients are updated & properly configured (plenty of links
in this forum that tell you how).

A NOS isnt usually something you can just slap on & run without doing any
configuration whatsoever.

It may be a limitation of XP, but you're best bet is to go
to Novell's Cool Solutions pages - there's a whole portion
of the site dedicated to schools and their special
requirements. You'll want to verify the health of DS on
the 5.1 server, make sure you're all patched, and make
sure you have the latest client. Have you thought any
about implementing ZENworks? There's all sorts of
solutions designed with ZEN for your type of environment.
