Logon to Domain Server

We are using a Windows XP Professional, and we are
trying to logon to a Domain Controller that is not at the
same city where we are (using a Hardware VPN), that is
inside some firewalls. We have configured the DNS
servers, and it seems to be working ok resolving the
names. But when we reboot the machine and type the
username, password and domain, we could logon to the
computer. But if we see on the Control Panel Event
Viewer, Under System it says that NetLogon couldn't find
a Domain Controller to authenticate the Domain.

We are thinking that this could be a firewall problem,
we need to open some ports that Windows needs to use for
authentication. Do someone knows which ports are?

Open up a command prompt... Type in "nslookup". What server is it
using? You need to have your XP Pro machine use the DNS server of
your private network (over the VPN). Try reconfiguring using an
internal DNS server (and WINS Server) and see if it helps.
