Hello,

I am having an issue with one of my site servers and
the logon script. Once in awhile the script will run
fine, other times it will flash by and not load any drive
mappings and once in awhile it will not run at all. If I
release and renew the IP address the script will run just
fine for a few days. This is happening on multiple pc's,
laptops as well as desktops. Has anyone seen this and is
there a fix?

Thanks,

Tim

Hi Tim,

Does this mainly happen right after the workstations are booted or does it
happen if the machines have been running and the user is just logging on for
the first time in the morning? If this mainly happens with Windows XP
workstations after a reboot try Disabling Fast Logon Optimization on one
test machine.

On the workstation open gpedit.msc and locate the setting called "Always
wait for the network at computer startup and logon". This setting is
located is under Computer Configuration\Administrative
Templates\System\Logon. Once it is set to Disabled run the following
command at the command line:

gpupdate /force

Reboot the workstation and see if the scripts run consistently.

If this does not provide relief please reply with the following:

a. The operating system and service pack that is installed on the problem
workstations.

b. Any errors in the application event log from the Source: Userenv.

c. Is the connection slow between the workstations and the DC?

d. When the script fails to map the drives, and the drives are not listed in
My Computers, see if they are listed in the command prompt.

e. Do all the group policy settings get applied when the drives fail to map?
