Hello,

I've set up a network with a win2K server and win2K
klients. They all have the latest service packs installed.

DNS and AD is up and running on the server and the klients
logon to the domain as expected, as long as I don't set
the klients to use any other DNS-server than my DC.

As soon as I add my ISPs DNS servers in DNS settings on my
klients, logon process takes up to 3-4 minutes. IF I then
change the DNS settings on the klients to use my own DNS
server first in order of use, the logon runs very quickly
but DNS lookup for the internet fails.

My DNS server is configured with both forward and reverse
lookup zones.

What am I missing here? Please help!

/H Tapper.

Hi,

You need to configure your DNS server to forward to your ISP and do not
point your clients to your ISP's DNS server. See 300202 HOW TO: Configure
DNS for Internet Access in Windows 2000

You must use the DC for DNS on all clients. In your DNS server, under
Forward Lookup Zones, do you have a "."(dot)? Delete it! then you can add
your ISP's DNS as a forwarder on the forwarders tab if you want.
