Logon in Welcome Window

I have recently installed a fresh version of XP Home Edition and did all my
updates. After doing the last lot of updates I am now required to click on my
identity to log onto windows whereas previously it went straight through the
welcome screen to the desktop. A friend of mine also has had this happen
recently as well. I went into the User Accounts in the control panel and
there is no change to the settings that I can do to get it back the way it
was - going straight past the welcome screen to the desktop.

Any clues to what has changed or how to fix it?

Hi,

You likely installed the .net framework as part of your updates. It adds an
account to the system and causes this issue. The account (asp.net) can be
safely removed. To regain the boot without logon screen (or actually to make
logon automatic), follow these steps. Click start/run, type "control
userpasswords2" (without the quotes) and click ok. In the user list, click
on the user that you want to be the default. Uncheck the box requiring a
username and password, click apply/ok and follow the prompts to set up a
default logon.

Rick,

Should I delete the asp.net account first, then do the run command action?

Cheers,

Hi,

You don't have to, it's optional.
