I have an XP client laptop that gives me the following error when trying to
log onto the network:

"System cannot log you on to this domina because the system's computer
account in it's primary domain is missing or the password on that account is
incorrect"

If I keep the network cable unpluged, log onto the machine and then plug the
cable back it,it works. Any help would be apreciated

On the client, un-join from the domain (put it in a workgroup).

Then, from an admin PC or server, in "Active Directory Users
and Computers", right click on the computer object and select
"Reset Account". If it in the right click menu also says
"Enable Account", select that one as well.

If you have several DC's, wait some minutes so replication is
done between them (just in case).

Then add the computer back to the domain.

If you are not able to join the computer now, delete the computer
object and create it again.

If I keep the network cable unpluged, log onto the machine and
then plug the cable back it,it works.

That is successful because of cached credentials...

Thanks, I'll give that a try

Hi,

Seems to be that you are connected to another computer and
had a domain. In that computer (domain) you have to re-set
the password. Othewise, it wont allow you to log in to the
network.

Hi,

The reason you can log onto the computer when you have the network cable
disconnected is because the computer security setting is setup to remember
past logons. Now when you connect that computer to the network and try to
logon, the computer tries to connect to the Domain Controller to verify your
account, but the computers primary domain and the domain your connecting to
are different, so it cannot verify your logon ID and password.
