Logon banner text limit?

I have a rather long logon banner message and the message
cuts off at 227 characters. Is this a built limit that I
can change or am I doing something wrong?

Are you sure you're making your entry in the message banner as
opposed to the title bar? Probably a dumb question on my part, but I
just did one with 4096 characters, so I figured I'd ask...

What OS, BTW?

It seems I'm having a problem with commas and semicolons.
Everything after my semicolon disappears. Are semicolons
not allowed?
