i just recently had to reinstall windows xp on my laptop and lost a feature i
liked. when i accessed the login or shutdown screens they were the interface
used with windows 2000 pro and windows xp pro. I only have home edition but
i would like to make it so they look like that again. i do not however, want
it to be completely classic interface. a.k.a. i dont want the start menu to
change or the smoothed borders on windows to change, only the login and
shutdown screens.

Hi Andrew,

Open the User Accounts applet in Control Panel, click on the "Change the way
users log on or off" link, click in the checkbox beside "Use the Welcome
screen" to deselect (uncheck) it, then click on Apply Options button.

Regards,

Start > Control Panel > User Accounts > Change the way users log on
or off...
