Is it possible to log off a WinXP machine and have the machine to go into
hibernation after a period of time? I have set on one machine for
hibernation to occur after 2 minutes of idleness and logged off and it
doesn't go into hibernation.

I would like to have users logoff at the end of the day, the machine go into
hibernation in a few minutes and then later awake the machine for auto
backups.

Thanks so much for your help,

By design, if you logoff, you cannot hibernate since
there is no reason to hibernate.

In order to simply go into Hibernation, do this...

Click Start
Click Turn Off Computer
When the 'Turn off Computer' menu opens,
Hold down the Shift key.
this will alternate between Standby and Hibernate

I have a similar question: how do I keep my user account logged on? It seems
to log out after 5-10 minutes of idle time. Thanks,

Mike, are you running XP Home or Pro, on a network or workgroup?

Joan Preppernau

Thank you, Joan. I am running Home, on a home network, through a Linksys
router. There is one other computer on the network. I hope that answers your
question. Thanks again,
Mike Pratt
