Okay gang,

This is driving me crazy here. I created an invoice for a friend of mine
(74kb). I inserted a 94 kb jpg logo at the top left of the invoice. New
file size - 5,748 kb! Fast saves and background saves turned off. Any idea
what gives? Word XP.

I gave up and copied all to a new template and the file size is not only 125
kb. Still not sure what the problem was, but it is fixed!

There are a number of reasons for excessive file size, including:

1. Fast Saves: Disable this at on the Save tab of Tools | Options.

2. Preview Picture: Clear the check box on the Summary tab of File |
Properties.

3. Versions (File | Versions): Make sure "Automatically save version on
close" is not turned on.

4. Revisions (Tools | Track Changes):
Highlight Changes: Make sure "Highlight changes on screen" is turned on.
Accept/Reject Changes: If "Accept All" or "Reject All" is available then
revisions are present; accept or reject all changes, then turn Track Changes
off.

5. Embedded True Type fonts (Tools | Options | Save); embedding fonts should
be avoided wherever possible.

6. Embedded graphics: When feasible, it is preferable to link the graphics.

7. Document corruption: See

Well, I went back in and recreated it again and found that it was the "Save
Preview Picture" option that was causing it. Go figure! Who would think
that a thumbnail image preview of a 125 kb file would cause it to weigh in
at 5.7 Meg!

Thanks Suzanne!
