Logitech PageScan Color

I have an old Logitech PageScan Color scanner which I love, because it has a
motorized feature which allows me to set it on a large picture and it will
roll itself along the picture and scan as it goes. This is great for old
family portraits, etc., that are too large and unwieldy to put on a flat bed
scanner and cannot be fed through a sheet scanner, both of which I also have
for other uses.

I just bought a new computer loaded with Windows XP and find that the
PageScan is no longer supported by Logitech. Does anyone have any
suggestions as to ANY way to make use of this scanner on Windows XP? Any
help would be greatly appreciated.

My first thought is a dual-boot system where you can have the OS that the
PageScan will work in on a separate partition of the HD.

Second thought is a older computer with the old OS just for the PageScan.
Second hand computers can be bought cheap.

I hope you did not destroy your old computer, your know the one that worked.

I have the same problem and found no other solution than to install
the old WinMe as second OS on my computer,

By the way: I like the PageScan also very much and I don't understand
that Logitech does not support this scanner for WinXP and that they do
not produce a successor model.

I consider Logitech's attitude towards us PageScan owners completely
responsibilityless, also as this scanner was so wideley advertised
some years ago. For me it's the reason to buy no more Logitech
products.

Logitech stopped making scanners many many years ago. Why should they
continue to support you?

Writing drivers for Windows XP is not that straightforward. Most
companies seem to get Micros**t to do it. XP broke a large number of
scanners. Indeed, I don't think any parallel scanners will work in XP.

If you want a machine that does a similar task to the Logitech
scanners, then Visioneer make some nice looking kit. And in some
countries you can send them your old Logitech machine and get a 25%
discount.

My Logitech scanner did stilling service. I even installed dual boot
so that I could continue to use it. But here comes a time when
hardware reaches the end of its useful life, if only because it
doesn't deliver the quality of modern kit.

"I don't think any parallel scanners will work in XP."

I used a 7-year-old Mustek 600IIIEP with XP on both a parallel port and
later on a USB until it was zapped by a power surge during a storm and with
a scan inprogress in mid-December 2003.

The clue there perhaps is "on both a parallel port and later on a
USB". The Logitech never had USB. It predated that interface. Maybe I
should have said "any parallel only scanners".
