Login Problem

I have XP Professional. After running Norton anti virus & ME Anti Spyware,
today I installed the security patches (KB*.*). After successful installation
I am not able to log on to the system as a regular user.

I am able to log on in Safe Mode. I tried restoring the system but it keeps
failing. Any help would be appreciated. (Have already checked up the registry
for the "wsaupdater.exe" and it is correct).

Can you log in as the admin?

No. I am unable to log in as anyone from the "normal" Windows XP log-on
screen. After accepting the password, it hangs while it is "Applying user
settings".

I booted with the Windows XP CD and just tried out the "Restore" option of
setup. I am able to log in as Admin there (I did not do anything after
logging in as I am not sure if thats what I should be doing).

I am able to log in as all the users in the Safe Mode. However, I am not
able to restore to any previous checkpoints it has saved while applying all
the security patches (ofcourse, I log in as Admin while trying to do this).

I am just running out of ideas......
