Check out page 2 - Albert posted the same problem (among
many others) and this excellent guy - Michael Solomon,
posted the answer.
Mr. Solomon,
You stated in earlier threads that you check these
postings regularly. I would like to say that you
are "the man"! I got great confidence from the number of
folks that said your solution worked.
In a nutshell, my friend installed the latest Norton.
She ran a scan and removed several viruses. When she
booted her pc again (or Norton did it for her), she was
unable to log-in to Windows XP Home Edition. I knew
something was wrong with her registry but I didn't know
how to start. Followed your instructions and we were
able to put new users out there. I changed processed the
regedit, per instructions and that problem seems to have
been resolved.
There is a lingering problem though. (Full disclosure -
she couldn't find her XP disk so I used mine.) Figured
it would get us over the hump and the instructions said
nothing about inputting a product key. Well, now the pc
prompts her to register her license of XP. I am a little
concerned about this. Please note: we were not asked for
a product key during the restore!
Michael - any thoughts about this? Naturally, I cannot
get a real person at Microsoft, so that I may plead
innocence.
Thanks again for your involvement in this newsgroup. I
will return often.
