Logging On with new laptop

After I hit the on/off button to boot up with my new
laptop-Dell 8600/Windows XP Home- I more often than not
get a msdos screen which says(difficult to read because
it is blinking)that there is a problem, sometimes with
memory, sometimes with video card. I end up shutting
down and rebooting. And most times it will boot up
normally. Sometimes it takes three times before I get
the desktop.

I appreciate all the help/advice.

Peg, this is a new Dell. I think you should call their tech support and
work through these issues with them.

From your description, it sounds like the problems are happening before
Windows loads. If this is true, there is a hardware or configuration
problem that is not related to the operating system. You'll want Dell
support to be documenting your case if there are hardware repairs or
replacements needed.
