Logging on to windows

Recently I have taken over a PC from another person in the office I work in.
Until then there was no form of security for logging in to windows. I set
up a user account and on booting up I select my account to go into windows.

However, whenever the PC is switched on another window appears prior to the
account selection window headed ‘Log on to windows’. This box has a name of
a previous owner of the PC and asks for a password. To proceed further I
have to replace the name in the box with my name and then my password.

How can I get rid of this box?

Do you have to press Ctrl+Alt+Del? if so i think you are using clissic logon.
Do you have administrative rights?

also check in user accounts "change the way users log on or off" and see if
Use the Welcome Screen is selected

Many thanks John.

In reply to both you postings. I don't have to press Alr/Ctl/Del and I
do have admistration rights.

I'm at home now but I will check "Use the Welcome Screen' when I get to the
office.

many thanks again
Kas

I have checked and "Use the welcome screen" is selected. So, it's still
mystery why this initial log in screen appears and also why there is also the
account selection screen. The other mystery is that whilst the name of the
previous user of the PC appears in the initial sign on screen there is no
account shown for that name on the select account screen.
