I have a 2000 server machine and a pc that logs into the
domain. I replaced the hard drive in the server and
installed Windows XP, making that machine a member of a
workgroup, in effect eliminating the domain. I have a
second PC witk W2k Pro that was a member of the domain.
I disassociated the PC from the domain and made it a
member of the workgroup. When I restart the pc it wants a
login as if I was still logging into the server. I don't
have the option to log in locally because the PC isn't a
member of the domain anymore. I can't re add it to the
domain because I can't get into Windows. Is there
anything I can do. I don't want to flatten the HD until I
install all of the software on a new drive and get the
settings in sync.

When you log on then you see three boxes:

1. User account
2. Password
3. Domain

Open drop box No. 3 and select the local PC name instead
of the domain. Now log in with a local account and password.

If you have removed it from the domain, the third box (which lets you choose
the domain or log in locally) disappears. There's not need for it any more.

Just type the name + password of whatever *local* account you are using.
Your domain accounts won't work anymore. I assume you know the password for
the account "Administrator" on the PC?
