When I open word it tries to open a file called $logger.dot

It might be related to installing a product called All-in-One Secretmaker
(since removed).

The file it not on my disk, but it appears to try to open something? Any
ideas about getting rid of this problem?

Thanks in anticipation :)

Have a look in the Word Startup directory, the location of which you can
determine via Tools>Options>File Locations, but it is usually:

C:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Application
Data\Microsoft\Word\Startup

Hope this helps.

Corrupt Add-On Templates

Hi!

I was having the same problem pretty much after changing computers & importing my old settings. So I'll post this so others with the same problem can better figure it out.

So when I opened Microsoft Word 2003 I would get a popup window asking if I wanted to use japanese encoding with wierd characters. Then I'd get two more messages, one referencing $logger.dot and the other #fworks.dot.

So as the help here said, I went to:

C:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Application
Data\Microsoft\Word\Startup

...and found blogger.dot and ~$logger.dot, and refworks.dot and ~$fworks.dot. So just corrupted duplicates. These were from the Blogger.com and RefWorks add-on. So I deleted the ~$ files and restarted word, and voila! Perfect startup.

Thanks!
