My company recently acquired another company that has
five users, these users have Windows 98 installed. We
recently installed a Frame Relay line (256kbps) that
physically connects our two networks/companies together.
My company already has a Windows 2000 domain controller
installed, but the company with five users does not.
I was wondering what the best setup might be to log the
remote users onto my company domain that does have a
domain controller. I recently tried to log on a remote
user, but I keep getting error messages about how the
domain controller cannot be reached. I presume this is
because all broadcasts the client computer makes to be
authenicated, never leave there local network, they
aren't coming over the WAN to the network where the
Domain controllers exist.
Here is the IP address setup of the networks,
Primary Domain Controller-->192.168.0.1
Cisco Router(My Company)-->192.168.0.10/10.0.0.1
Cisco Router(New Company)-->10.0.0.2/172.16.0.1
New client computers-->172.16.0.2-172.16.0.10
As you can see the clients exist on the 172.16.0.0
network and the Domain Controller exists on the
192.168.0.0 network.
Is there a easy way to join/logon the clients to the
domain?
I really do not want to add a Domain Controller at the
172.16.0.0 network because there is only five users. But
if that is my only option I will. I am just hoping
someone knows a easier way to get around this. Also, if
it would help, we are upgrading the five client computers
to Windows XP Pro. Not sure if this would change anything.
Thank you in advance,
Chris
