Suggestions on how to override on boot up?

Turn the computer on and start tapping the F8 key just as soon as the
first information of any kind shows on the screen. Keep tapping until
the Windows XP Startup Menu appears and choose Safe Mode from the
menu.

Note: If the Windows XP Startup splash screen appears you have missed
the startup menu and will have to shut down and restart it again.

When it starts up in Safe Mode you should get a user account selection
that includes the default, normally hidden, Administrator account. The
password for this account is blank by default unless you set one up
during the initial install of Windows XP.

When it is booted into Safe Mode run System Restore from Accessories -
System Tools and choose the most recent restore point that is prior to
the onset of your login problems.

Good luck
