Log-on screen messages

On the Windows XP Pro Welcome screen my log-on indicates
that I have 2 unread e-mail messages. After I log on and
open Outlook 2002 or Outlook Express, ther are no unread
messages in any of the folders. Where does WinXP get the
messages from that it displays on the Welcome screen, and
how do I get rid of the mail message?

It ges them from Hotmail. specifally how many were there
last time messenger signed on.

Download and install tweakui for xp and use its repair mail count feature or
use it to turn the mail count off completely.

Or edit the registry and delete the mail accounts you don't want:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail

Passport:

Go to Start/Run and type in: control userpasswords2. Advanced/Manage
Passwords/Remove.

Add Control Userpasswords2 to the Control Panel (Line 1)

To remove an account or to change the count manually Got to:
Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail\[Your
E-Mail Address]. In the right pane modify: Message Count, Change it to 0.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail. In
the right pane modify: MessageExpiryDays Change it to 0.
