On one of my W2K servers , one of the services stops and cannot be
started until I reenter the password, then I get a message saying it
has be given log on as a service right. what does this right do, how
can I check why this service is stopping?

You should investigate the application of the 'logon as a
service' right in Group Policy objects linked to the
container that the server is in as well as any inherited
policies from parent containers. You will probably find
that the service account you are using is not permitted
to log on as a service.

This could explain why it does not start when the server
is restarted, but there could be other reasons for the
service stopping in the first place. There is not enough
detail to help on that.
