I would like to log off users who have been inactive for a certain amount
of time...like 15 or 30 minutes. Is there a non third party solution
included in the group policy management for Windows 2000 server? The
workstations are a mixture of Windows 2K Pro and XP Pro. Thanks.

There isn't a policy setting that will log the user off after being
inactive. The closest thing to that would be the password protected
screensaver policy. This will lock the workstation after being idle for a
specified time.

I've seen this request so many times, and it is something I would
like to have also. Locking the machine defeats the purpose in a lab
environment, where you want to free the machine up for someone
else. In fact, I would like to also automatically log off a user
who has locked a machine for more than 30 minutes.

Do you think MS is considering including this feature at a later time?

I am not sure if there are any plans for a feature to logoff the user. If
you have product recommendations Microsoft would like for you to visit the
MSwish website and submit them. The address is
http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp.

There is a screen saver that is included in the Windows Resource kit that
can log off a user when the screen saver kicks off called WinExit.scr. You
could set that as the screensaver.
