I shall be glad if someone could let me know if the "betanews.microsoft.com"
news-server is a freely accessible one or for invited members only.

And, where does one go about getting a username and password if it is freely
accessible?

Regards and thanks in anticipation.

It's private; instructions for Beta testers and other cub scouts with access
on Connect under the heading newsgroups for whatever you're testing via
Conncet which is their Beta site for about 230 Betas whatever they are.
Scary thought isn't it--230 plus MSFTie Betas?

Thanks to both Rick Rogers and Chad Harris for your helpful responses.

I was able to create a password (oh so complex!) from my beta account at
Connect! Now I am waiting for the account to become active so I can log on!

Regards and thanks.

Cheers.

Safe you should be able to log on by setting up a passport account and then
using the links on the left click "Available Conncections." I would have
called the link Beta Programs but English and MSFT @ Redmond and anything
remotely intuitive have never been close friends.

Okay, folks, thanks very much for the helpful pointers.

I am in. The server got my account going just a few minutes ago!

There appears to be just four groups right now. Three of them for Windows
Server 2003 SP 2, and one for announcements.

Regards and thanks.

Cheers.

Other groups will only appear as you are added to the beta programs that use
those groups.

Thanks for the input. Okay I see the logic.

Regards and cheers.

Keep in mind that you are not supposed to discuss the posts in
microsoft.beta.ws2003sp2.general, announcements, or setup outside of those
newsgroups. The other one is microsoft.betanews.system.announcements, which
shows up once you are subscribed to any of the other betanews ng's.

That beta does not require an NDA. Neither does this one or TechBeta. You
know it if you are under NDA. You really know it.

Even if he was under an NDA, the statements made here do not reveal any
content.
