I just finished loading a bunch of the auto-updates for windows and now am
unable to get any of the user profiles to log in properly. All that happens
after I enter the password is a long loading period before the background for
that user shows up. Nothing else loads, no desktop, explorer bar or anything
else.

any ideas on how to remedy this issue?

thanks

Try uninstalling each of the updates in turn reboot to test until the
problem disappears. Then reinstall all updates save the last one you
uninstalled and reboot to confirm you no longer have a problem.

Please let us know how you get on.

i'm not sure how I can even uninstall the updates as I can't see anything
other than the background or access any programs after I log in.

To remove an update, go to Add and Remove Programs in your Control
Panel.

If you cannot see them after scrolling through the list check Show
Update in the Bar at the top of the list.

To obtain a list of the August updates installed select, Start, Help and
Support, Keep your Windows up- to-date with
Windows Update, Review your Update History.

I don't think that I was clear in what I meant previously. I can't actually
access the control panel or any of that since the explorer bar is not
loading. the icons on the desktop do not appear and I can't see the start
menu. the way that I've been shutting down is by bringing up the task
manager using ctrl+alt+del. otherwise, all i have is a blank screen with a
background image.
