Are log files necessary for running XP Pro or can they all be deleted ??

That's a very general question. Log files can come from the operating
system and also from programs. Some programs don't care if you remove
the log files. Others will look for the log file when doing an
uninstall. Since log files are simple text files and very small, it is
better to just leave them alone. If you are running out of space,
removing log files won't help you.

Yes, log files are necessary. Many log files are required to uninstall applications.
You'll likely have "issues" later on if you delete .log files.
