For each new browser window I open for IE a IEXPLORER.DATE.LOG file is
created on my desktop. The content of the log file is below:

13:11:22.893 ::*Session* :: >>>> WinHttp Version 5.1 Build 5.1.2600 Aug 3
2004 22:24:11>>>>Process IEXPLORE.EXE [680 (0x2a8)] started at 13:11:22.893
09/29/2006

Any idea?

Hi Desk,

Windows version?

From the log file it says that you are running IE version 5. This is the
newsgroup for version 6 (and version 7 is comming soon), but that aside it
is perhaps time to think about an upgrade of your computer and to use the
automatic update features now available from MS.

Is this your home computer or a work computer? Log files are used record
error information or to record your surfing on the web. If this is a work
computer, ask your help desk about it. If it is your home computer then you
have probably been infested with malware that is tracking your surfing.

You will find plenty of posts on this newsgroup about removing malware.

Without knowing your windows version and your (home/work) situation these
are the only recommendations that I can make.

Regards.

Sorcerer's apprentice syndrome? <LOL>

Have you been playing with winhttptracecfg (ref KB307272)?

Rob,

My browser is 6.0 SP2. I tried lot of http data tracking tool. This could be
one of them. Let me try to troubleshoot further on this. Thanks for pointing
this KB to me.

Guys,

I found the solution.

I downloaded the "Windows Resource Tool Kit" and was running winhttp on
debug mode.

To reset it: go to c:\program~files\Windows~resource~kits\tools
and run winhttptracecfg -e 0 (that's is number 0).

That fixed by problem. Thanks to robert aldwinckle which helped me to
troubleshoot this.
