I have a presentation with mpg2 clips I guess thats
baicly DVD. Powerpopint plays the clip through once then
lock up. the computor is a hp 772 which has a DVD RW
drive so the computor clearly can handle DVD. Any
sugestions.

Don't assume that a DVD drive implies handling DVD video, although I'm sure
your PC is capable of playing such clips. DVD is a storage medium first and
a video playback medium second.
Furthermore, MPEG2 playback in PowerPoint is divorced from DVD playback
unless you're inserting your DVD player as an object.
It sounds like you need to update DirecttX from the MS website, but could
you explain more about the clips? How you inserted them, how big the files
are (MB and resolution) and how long?

I have PowerPoint on an HP desk top and on HP laptop. The movies are =
ones I took with a video camera and converted into a digital file with =
and analog to digital hardware device. At some point I converted them to =
from Mpeg1 to Mpeg2 because I though they would be better. They =
wouldn't play on either the older HP or the laptop anymore. A white =
screen and a chirping sound. A computer shop updated the codex?? on =
both and they play the movies. most are 6 or 7 seconds long. The new =
HP with DVD ect much more powerful would play them once (not the white =
screen and chirping) but then I was locked up. Power point not =
responding (no error message just when the video finished it didn't know =
what to do. The same shop redid and upgraded the drivers etc and still =
with the larger HP. One pay through then locked up

yes they are stored on the hard drive with a link to that location and =
the file name. I had a computer place update the codex? and they now =
play on the older HP and laptop. He updated everything on the newer HP. =
The older machines would give a white screen and chirp. They are ok =
now. The newer HP would play them (At least in previewing the slide but =
would lock up when it finished. No error message just lock up. =
PowerPoint not responding. I think I subsequently tried to actual look =
at the slide as run slide show and the titles which are animated dropped =
down but the movie never played. When you are looking at the slide in =
preview it will play the one time.
Thanks
Gerald

When the clip appears to lock up PowerPoint have you tried to advance the
slides with both the keyboard and the mouse? It's possible that you need to
update DirectX on the machines.

I updated the player to 9B still the same thing. They play using the
player and probably any other viewing divice but not in Powerpoint.
Is there some place that I tell powerpoint to use the windows media
player?
