We are using Word 2002 to create a letterhead template for
a customer to insert their letters. How do we lock the
items on the page so they do not get inadvertently moved or
changed, while still enabling the ability to add text?

Hi Meliss
Please forgive me for adding a question to yours but I used to have a version of Word that had a bar with a lock icon that would freeze or lock the page. Now with XP Word I cannot locate it (the lock) and when I send the document (resume) as mail it is still active to the recipient with the curser flashing away and this awful little cross in a box with arrows and then another tiny little box that won't go away. Please help us. Thank you

Put the fixed letter head details in the page header of the first page.
Place the date with a createdate field in the text plane and call for the
addressee information with a macrobutton field (or if you are feeling
adventurous create a userform).

I think you are looking for the forms toolbar. Right click the toolbar area
and check the box against 'forms'.

OK this all works however if I send the document electronically as an attachment the recipient sees the company letterhead "dull" like I see it because it is in the header - can I change this so it appears regular brightness to the recipient?

There is no way to change this in Word. Your best bet is to create a PDF and
send that instead. Or print the letter and mail it.
