is there a way in group policy to lock down the A drive and prevent users from accessing it?

Could you remove the A drives from the computers? Also have you thought of
USB memory keys that users can use to get data off a machine? Alot more
data will fit on that then a floppy?

i am considering removing them, but i don't want to freak anyone out.

the good news is,. at the moment the people i am worried about don't really know about usb drives. the a drive, or email would be there point of exit. i am working on the usb problem also. someone suggested changing the cmos settings to disable the drive, as well as unhooking the a drive. i am hoping for a software solution, but i will take whatever i can get!

Having not gotten into it myself so I don't know, but can you disable the
drives & USB in the device manager? & can you do that remotely? If your
users do not have admin priviliges then they cannot re-activate them.

Unfortunately, since Windows 2000 has drivers for the USB devices,
non-admins can load the drivers for them. In fact, it's automatic.

Just about the only way I can think of to combat these is to sabotage the
drivers.
