Hi, I've got XP pro.... I want to lock down an account on my computer....
I've just formatted and installed xp pro..... I've asked my son not to
install anything on my pc (he's got his own).... but I find him doing it
anyways...

Is there a way, I can limit a user account , and not let him install
anything?

With XP you can set him up his own screen name, but do not give him administrative rights. Then he can sign on with his own account and not be able to load any programs or downloads from the internet. Of course, if he signs on as administrator or your screen name has administrative rights, he can still download or load programs. Good Luck!

Hi Don,

The simple way: put passwords on all administrative accounts and
create a limited user account for your son. He won't be able to
install programs, though he can surf on the Web, use programs, etc;
also he cannot access the administrative accounts because of the
passwords you set.

The hard way: go to Start > Run > gpedit.msc
Go to administrative templates, and look for the appropiate policies.
You have to be careful using this tool, though, or your account could
also be restricted.

Good luck
