While trying to establish a network connection on a Toshiba laptop using 2000 professional, I somehow locked myself out...

When the computer boot`s up, I get the following message:

User Name: Administrator
Password:

Since there was no password ever entered on this computer...

Following trying to enter, the following logon message is displayed:

The system could not log you on. Make sure your user name and domain are correct, then type your password again. Letters .....

This would not be such a big deal, just re-load windows 2000 professionnal... but on this toshiba laptop the OS and other programs are bunddled, and re-loading means erasing the hard disk ...

I tried safe mode, with networking with command prompt, and all other

This situation is easily avoided by creating a second admin account while
the laptop is functional. You wouldn't ever own a car with just a single set
of keys, would you?

To get out of the corner that you're in, boot with the boot disk from the
link below, then replace the admin's password with a blank password. It's
scary stuff but it works. When finished, create this alternative account . .
