Just finishing up a perfectly working DB and i wanted to apply
adminstrative rights.I did it correctly to the point of having a shortcut on
the desktop prompting for the password. It all worked well and prevented
users rights as i had set it up.THEN CAME THE MISTAKE......I tried to winzip
the program so i could transfer the DB through the internet and immediately
after that,,all copies of access on my machine required a admin password.
You are joined by default to a workgroup that has a password set for the
Admin user (likely the mdw you secured your mdb with). Use the workgroup
administrator to see what you are joined to by default. In 97/2000 you
access the WA by Start, Run, wrkgadm.exe; in 2002 +, open Access and go to
Tools, Security, Workgroup Administrator. Try rejoining the standard
system.mdw (usually it's located in the windows system folder). That will
stop the login prompt for every Access session.
To make matters worse, i went to the shortcut and it read d:documents and
settings shortcut secured.mdw could not be found.......hence, i can not sign
into any access app on my machine....Can anyone help...what can be done to
recover the shortcut or reverse what has happened. Please help!!!
Just right-click on the shortcut and choose properties. You'll see the
target that's being used. It is looking for your secured mdw on the D:
drive. If you have moved the mdw, then the shortcut needs to be editted to
reflect the new location. The target takes the format of
"path to msaccess.exe" "path to mdb" /wrkgrp "path to secure mdw"
Also when you ziped the mdb to transfer it via the internet, did you also
include the secured.mdw? You need that as well.
