Hi,

I was running my computer just fine when it froze for a
bit. I reseted the computer and every was back in order
except one of my hard drive which partitioned is now
locked out and asks me if I'd like to "format" it. I was
wonder if there is any way to get it back since I have
alot of important data on that partition.

Thanks

Don't format it obviously. You might try to go to Computer Management/Disk
Management and find that drive, right click it and see if there is an option
to refresh or initialize. You also may want to put that drive in another
W2K/XP computer as a slave/secondary and see if you can access it that way.
Try downlaoding diagnostic software from your hard drive manufacturer to run
and check your disk and make sure that the cable to it and the motherboard
are firmly seated. --- Steve

As a further note, you might check disk management and see
if a drive letter has been assigned, a few months ago, one
of my hd's lost it's drive letter for some strange reason
and asked me if I wanted to format it, I was astonished of
course, as I have important data on it, and di not want to
format, in my checking I discovered the lost drive letter
and reassigned one, it worked fine, no format needed.

OK I'm up for that but how do I re-assign the letter as
you say?

also for next time, try opening Windows explorer and help
section and enter assign drive letter in the search window.
faster than waiting for someone to respond in this forum.
