I've inherited an Access application with some interesting qualities. Most
of the menus I need to modify the forms are missing (Tools, etc). I've
tried holding down the shift key with no success. Using F11 I can view
the tables, forms, queries, etc, but cannot right click on forms in view
mode to switch to design mode, or in design mode to view properties, etc.
Cannot access the Start-up options either. Have searched the module for
code that would disable menus and alter properties with no success. Any
ideas?

Is this an MDE file or an MDB file?

It also could be an MDE file that was renamed (pretty sneaky) as an MDB
file.

In any case, MDE's can't do the things you mentioned. You'd have to locate
the MDB file from which the MDE was created.

Thanks, Rick. Its an MDB file - and I can access the Datawindow, and go
into design mode from a menu option there. But most of the major menu
items are missing, and I can't right click, etc. Perhaps I could import a
menu?

Have you tried creating a new database and importing all the objects from
your 'bad' database into the new one?

Yep - soon as I did, the toolbars/menus in the new database looked just
like the old one! I even tried deleting the module - thinking that would
remove any VBA that might be disabling it. I also tried compact/repair.
This one's got me stumped!

Yes - I can't right click anything in this MDB - not forms, menus, nothing.
It has somehow been disabled.....

You mean after you import a bunch of forms etc...all of sudden all your
menus etc disabled? (no way!). If you now exit, and then re-enter, then
likely the user has a autostart macro that runs some code..and that point
then all kind of settings can take place...

But..right after you import everything..there is no running of code etc..and
all you menu bars..tools bars etc and the general ms-access interface can't
possibly change..since no code has been yet run....

I should also not that you can complete hide and disable the ms-access
interface without any code at all. I have a working example here that you
can download...but you CAN use the shift key to by-pass my options :

http://www.attcanada.net/~kallal.msn/msaccess/DownLoad.htm

So, after you import all that stuff intoa new database...if you hold down
the shift key during startup...then you should be able to get back in..
