locked computer

I cannot properly shut down my computer because it is
locked. Earlier tonight a message appeared asking me to
give my password (which I did not have at the time--I do
now). By using this password I can unlock my settings
and close the computer. Problem is that I don't know how
to bring up that message again. Any ideas?

If the computer is locked press ctrl-alt-del at the same time to bring up
the login screen.
