I have this odd problem that comes up on one laptop. When the
screensaver turns on and the computer locks, sometimes I can't log back
in. I am sometimes able to type in my password, but enter doesn't
work. Everytime this happens, the cursor moves behind the logon
window. The keyboard will stop responding as well.

Windows XP Pro
Logitech wireless mouse
Sony laptop

None of those are unique. There is more than one machine with the same
configuration. Windows has been fully patched and there is no virus or
spam. Any ideas?

Weird. I can't say that I have ever seen that but you might want to try an
external keyboard and a wired mouse for a time to see if the problem still
happens or not. Also look in the logs via Event Viewer to see if any
errors/warnings are shown that may be pertinent and check Device Manager for
any problems that are usually flagged with an exclamation point. It might
also be worth while to reinstall drivers for the mouse using the latest
drivers you can find from the vendors website. Using msconfig to do
selective startup of the operating system may also be worthwhile in case
another process is interfering. If the problem persists and reasonable
repair attempts have been exhausted you might want to consider a fresh
install of the operating system after of course backing up any needed data
and configuration settings and being sure to decrypt any files encrypted via
EFS first. --- Steve
