I'm looking for information on locking down a standalone Windows XP Pro box
to Internet Explorer. I've found plenty of information on doing this when
the computer is located in a domain utilizing AD however I'm looking for
information on accomplishing this without the use of a domain. Any
information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

PS. This is not to be confused with IE's Kiosk mode.

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows(or is it NT)\Current Version\Winlogon\
change the shell to iexplorer.exe

Please note however that ie is the same as explorer and you just type say
Control Panel and you are there you would have to dissallow access to a
number of directories and files using gpedit.msc to enact a local policy to
stop this. Also performing a ctrl-alt-del on the ie screen gives you usual
access to taskbar and the ability to create a new process so you would need
to block that aswell in the policy

Enjoy

Kevin,
Do you know off hand if specifying another application such as another
web browser would have a better effect of creating a web only Kiosk?
Thanks
