Hello,
I have an older homemade PC with an AOpen motherboard. WE recently installed
a new 40GB hard drive and installed W2k as the operating system. Have also
upgraded to windows SP4. The problem is windows will totally lock up for no
reason. The screen freezes and nothing works. Task manager will not come
up-only way to reset is to do a hard boot. We even switched to a different
mouse just in case. Have never had this problem before-any suggestions would
be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Try booting to Safe Mode and see if there are problems... could be a damaged
video driver. If it works OK in safe mode then reduce hardware acceleration
on the video and see if that helps, perhaps updating to the newest driver
will help. This article discusses how to lower hardware acceleration:

Check the event log for clues.

Post back your findings.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have already tried these to no avail and we
have decided to scrap this upgrade. Thanks again.
