I have a need to lock and fix the size of an object in a PPT so it
cannot be edited or changed.
Is there a way to do this?

Thanks
Jerry

There's no simple way to lock objects but try this.
In view master create a NEW slide master (you'll need xp or better for this)
Place the object on this master
Select the slide in normal view and with format >design hover over the new
master and with the drop down menu select "apply to selected slides" If you
want belt & braces view the slide master at 25% and draw a large transparent
shape over the whole area and in custom animation give it a with previous
exit > disappear, return to 50% view (or whatever). This wont affect the show
but will make it harder to adjust the master

John

What I'm trying to do won't work with this method.
I want to only keep the size of an object fixed not its location
I'm building a simple interactive GANTT chart in PPT (so I don't have
to charge up Project)..and explaining it in PPT is easier.

I built a simple GANTT chart in Excel, and pasted it as an image in
PPT. I left out the bar I want to be able to move. I made another
object in PPT that looks like a timeline bar, and I want to keep this
object fixed in size so that people who view the slide (in normal
mode), can grab the timeline and slide it around the GANTT chart to
address some issues regarding the entire timeline. If I don't fix the
size of the timeline PPT object, I fear someone will accidently grab
it the wrong way and change its length, which, of course, has a
dramatic effect on how it fits into the timeline and the message I'm
trying to convey

Jerry,
As John says, this isn't easy. However, you might take a look at an
addin that I wrote with Steve called ShapeStyles. It would allow you
to memorize the size and even location of a shape and if you assign it
not just a Style but as a StickStyle, one click will allow you to
search all shapes in a presentation and reset the height and width and
top and left to all StickyStyle shapes.

A free demo is available at
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptools/index.html and you'd also want to
download and install the Starter Set tools since there is a lot on
control code in there.

Not sure this would work for you but here's some lateral thinking.
Make the bar a text box filled with symbol 2588 (ARIAL BLACK, full block)
(you'll have to experiment with font size and number of symbols)

It should look like a bar but not change in size.

Cool Idea John
I'll need to set properties to "size object to fit" too
I'll try this

Jerry

U+2588 gives heavy dashed line in Arial (don't have Arial Black)

but that works
Thanks
