E4M creates virtual partition (size defined by you) and encrypts it, so when
you unlock it, you deal with it like with another drive, when you lock it,
god help you if you forget the pawsord.

http://www.samsimpson.com/cryptography/scramdisk/

Whole site is mainly for Scramdisc, which is payable, but you can also get
e4m there, which is freeware.

It may be true that you can't fool all the people all the time, but you
can fool enough of them to rule a large country.

If you are using Windows XP, you can put your sensitive files into a zip
folder and then assign a password to it.

From the website:

Known Bugs -

MaxCrypt will prevent windows from restarting when user selects "Restart
Computer" from the windows shutdown menu. MaxCrypt will only allow the
system to either shutdown or logoff.

Oh sh@#, so that's what was causing that.
Got rid MaxCrypt because I didn't need encrypted files anymore, also got
rid of a bunch of other stuff and my restart was back.

That works but 1) any new files you add to the folder will not be protected
and 2) the file names will still be viewable (unless you embed the zip you
want to hide into a password protected zip).

They are only file names. A file's name only needs to be meaningful to the
user. They don't have to have any obvious meaning to others.

and 3) zip files is easy to crack - find password, while above menitoned
excryption is impossible to crack.
