How can I lock an Access database on a shared network
drive to one user at a time. In other words, when one user
has the database open and another person tries to open the
database, he/she gets a message to the effect of "Sorry
someone is already in this database. Try again later." Any
ideas. It feels like Ive tried everything.

Thanks

brazilnut52,

Hopefully the users are starting the database using an
desktop icon. Right click icon, goto properties and in
the target window add \excl .

That is it. Now when they open the database it will open
exclusively or will tell them someone already has it open.

Martin's solution did not work for me. You can also go
to Tools, Options and on the Advanced tab select Default
open mode as Exclusive. I'm not sure if this will affect
other databases or not.
