I have downloaded the demo version of Windows XP embedded
and have started reading throught the documentation.
In the section "Analyze the Target Device" there is following
statement:

The following list shows the hardware requirements for the Microsoft
Windows Preinstallation Environment that is included on the Windows XP
Embedded CD 1.

The downloader prog XPEFFI.exe did not download cd but instead
installed
programms where is the preinstallation environment that is mentioned
in this section?

The version you installed/downloaded does not contain the WinPE environment,
it only contains the XPe toolchain.
If you need WinPE then you must obtain an ISO CD-ROM image for disk 1 and
use it to create a WinPE bootable CD.

Is that true ? I also downloaded the demo version. This directory contains
the PE Environment :
C:\Program Files\Windows Embedded\Installer\DISK1\XPE. It also contains the
tap.exe application.
Can you make a bootable CD of the DISK1 directory ? Booting Windows PE ?

Up to now i detected my hardware using MS-DOS boot floppy and ta.exe but i
get a blue screen when the system boots.

Using MS-DOS and ta.exe seems to be a bad idea. The run-time image created
with that pmq file stopped with message "STOP 0x0000007B", a blue screen.
Installing Windows XP on the device first and running tap.exe (not ta.exe)
gave a good configuration. Now i have created an image that boots and shows
me a login screen.

But what is the username/password ?

My original request was based on the need for Windows PE and tap.exe.
I have since abondoned that and installed Bart's PE
http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/
and created a custom boot cd that contains tap.exe and other tools I
was
looking for. I used the bootcd run tap.exe and ftp to another
machine on our network and upload the created pmq
