I reinstalled Windows 2000 from a factory CD. Everthing
appears to have loaded OK, except for one file named
NT5INF.CAT

During the installation of Windows 2000, the computer is
requesting that this file on the CD-ROM is needed. So, I
insert the Windows 2000 CD, but setup fails to install
the file. As a result, I am unable to get into the
Windows environment, and the computer continues to cycle
through this same process without booting into Windows.

Any suggestions on working through this problem? What if
I format the harddrive? How do I format the hardrive in
DOS and remain outside of Windows?

Do you have access to a Win98 Start-up disk (emergency disk)?
It's really a must have utility tool, Not only will this boot you into DOS it
will also load any CD drives you have installed.

can i make a win98 disk on a win2000 computer using the
win98 cd?

You can get it from www.bootdisk.com... only if you've got $4 to spend and a PayPal account or credit card. :(

Not an overly-exorbitant price for a handful of totally free utilities. I guess the $4 covers their putting them all on one CD.

Actually, for the Novice computer user, it's probably a good idea and worth the small amount of money.

CAVEAT: I have NOT downloaded the bootdisk version! Therefore, I cannot vouch for the functionality of their CD. It may work, it may not. I don't know. Perhaps if someone did pay to download it, they could post the results of its use here.
