Locating Content.IE5 Folder

The folder Content.IE5 should be in the Doc and settings/local
settings/Temporary Internet Files. But no such folder is there. This folder
contains all sorts of temporary files which I need to access. But where is
it?

You will not be able to see the Content.IE5 folder associated
with your account in Windows Explorer.

There are two ways to access the folder.

1. Open your TIF folder,
C:\Documents and Settings\YOURACCOUNT\Local Settings\Temporary
Internet Files.
Next, click in the Address bar at the top of the window so that
the address is highlighted. Hit the right arrow key to place
the cursor at the end of the folder path.
Type \Content.IE5 in the address bar and hit Enter. You should
now see the contents of that folder.

2. Go to Start -> Run and enter the folder path to Content.IE5
in the Open box.
Autocomplete should help you by presenting options you can
select using the down arrow. Add a backslash after you select a
folder.

You do not need to be able to see the Content.IE5 folder in order to clean
it.

Paste the following line into Start | Run and click OK...

%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

You can create a shortcut to...
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

But, with SP2, you'll get a warning when you try to open it from the
shortcut:

Yes No
--------------------------

Then swear out loud while clicking Yes. ;-) I am not sure if swearing out
loud is required because I am unable to click on Yes without swearing out
loud.

You do not need to be able to see the Content.IE5 folder in order to clean
it.

To delete *all* of your Temporary Internet Files...

1) Start | Run | Type: inetcpl.cpl | Click OK
Or right click the Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop
Or Start | Settings | Control Panel | Internet Options
Best to do this with all instances of Internet Explorer closed. Especially
if there are a large number of files. Also close OE.
2) On the General Tab, in the middle of the screen, click on Delete Files
3) Check the box: Delete all offline content {This cleans >>
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
AND
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
and \Content.MSO (Created by an MS Office program)}
4) Click on OK and wait for the hourglass icon to stop after it deletes the
temporary internet files
5) You can now click on Delete Cookies and click OK to delete cookies that
websites have placed on your hard drive.
6) You can also click on the Clear History button to empty your History
folder.

Note: If you do NOT select the Delete all offline content box, not
everything will be cleaned out.

Windows Internet Explorer 7 does not have a Delete all offline content
option.

Thanks much............we got to the folder and found some of the missing
documents.
I'm wondering....how long do these content. IE5 folders keep these (in this
case) Microsoft Word documents?. These were attached documents that were
saved in Outlook Express.........mistakenly to these cryptic sub-folders in
the Content.IE5 Folder Are they dumped with any regularity?

Open Control Panel -> Internet Options.
On the General page, click on the Settings button under
Browsing History in IE7.
Note: For IE6, click on the Settings button under Temporary
Internet Files.
Here you can set a size limit on the TIF.
The default is 3% of the drive on which Windows is installed.
Once that limit is reached, older files will start to be
deleted.

As a footnote, you might want to post future questions
concerning Internet Explorer or Outlook Express to a newsgroup
devoted to that application. Both of these newsgroups should be
available on the Comcast news server.

Thanks again...........

Actually this is more or less a Windows Explorer problem..........locating
this elusive floder: Content.IE5 in the right place. It would be nice if
Microsoft alerted us that when saving an attachment in OE6 it will default
to an obscure folder (unless one specifies otherwise). I'm sure thousands of
files are lost every day by users unfamiliar with this labyrinthian system.

Thanks for your help......we found what we were missing........only took a
collective 8 hours of sleuthing!
