Locally Stored Pac File

I saved my pac file on my C drive.
I do not want to use a web server.
I want to be able to put it using the automatic configuration script. Is
this possible?
If so are there any good Microsoft articles on how to do this?
 
UPDATE:
I found a link that said to change the automatic configuration script file
settings to file://c:/windows/proxy.pac
I did this, cleared the cache and closed the browser. I then reopend the
browser and now I can't get to any internet sites.
I am using IE version 6 on a windows XP box.
Does anyone know the correct syntax to use a pac file stored locally?
